We pray peace and comfort over all members of the Albuquerque Police Dept and their families during this tragic time, in Jesus name, Amen! prayer APD detective shot by lieutenant during undercover operation remains in critical condition

  • Prayer is the essence of the Spiritual life without which all ministry loses its meaning. It is the fulfillment of the great commandment to love the Lord with all our heart, all our soul and all our mind…..To pray is to unite ourselves with Jesus and lift up the whole world through Him to God in a cry of forgiveness, reconciliation, healing, and mercy….Most of all, prayer is the way to become and remain part of Jesus mission to draw all people to the intimacy of God’s love.” by Henri Nouwen, The Only Necessary Thing: Living a Prayerful Life

    From the APD Facebook page:

The Albuquerque Police Department would like to thank the community for their prayers and continued support.

The officer who was shot is still in critical condition. The officer underwent surgery last night. His condition has not changed. He currently is undergoing additional surgery. The officer’s family is traveling from out of state to be at his bedside, and we are asking that his name not be released.

We know that two of our undercover detectives were working in an undercover/plain clothes capacity to conduct a narcotics bust. The two Albuquerque undercover detectives were in the vehicle with suspects. Due to the nature of undercover narcotics work, it is impractical for detectives to wear bullet proof vests or body cameras. The investigation is still ongoing and those officers involved have yet to be interviewed. As the investigations continues, we will provide additional information. Please note that all officers involved, work in an undercover capacity and their identities are sensitive.

The officer who fired his weapon is a Lieutenant with the Albuquerque Police Department. He is getting support through the department’s counseling and behavioral sciences teams. He, as you can imagine, is devastated, and needs the community’s support as well.

An additional Albuquerque Police detective who sustained minor injuries was treated and released from the hospital yesterday afternoon.

We would also like to thank the multi-jurisdictional task force who is assisting with this investigation.
    – New Mexico State Police
    – Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department
    – Rio Rancho Police Department

Thank you as well to the Albuquerque Fire Department, Albuquerque Ambulance paramedics and the medical staff at the University of New Mexico Hospital for their amazing work and professionalism. They have all gone above and beyond. There are also countless business partners who have donated vehicles, lodging and food for family and officers involved.

We would also like to give an update on Officer Lou Golson’s condition. He is in good spirits and recovering from a third surgery.
Anyone wishing to reach out or send letters/cards to the officers or their families can send them to the main police station:

We have asked the media to protect the integrity of the identities of the undercover officers who were involved in Friday’s incident near Tramway and Central. Undercover police work affects their families, future positions and current active investigations.

“These officers are out there putting their lives on the line, trying to protect our community. They were out there working this case as a result of the community outcry of the narcotics activity occurring in this area. We would just ask that you respect their undercover identities as undercover work is very, VERY dangerous,” – Chief Gorden Eden

The Chief made the above statements at a press briefing this afternoon while visiting the injured officer and his family at UNM Hospital.
