Palestinian Authority to Gradually Take Over Gaza in New Plan

Palestinian leaders (Illustrative)Negotiations in Cairo between Fatah, the faction which dominates the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, and the Islamist terror militia Hamas which rules the Gaza Strip, resulted Tuesday in an agreement for a unity government dominated by the PA to take over administration of border crossings and other government functions in the Strip. Several other outstanding issues between the two parties, including the paying of salaries for 40,000 Hamas employees in the Strip, have yet to be resolved. Meanwhile, the governments of the 57-nation Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) voiced strong support on Saturday for the speech of PA President Mahmoud Abbas before the UN General Assembly, including plans to join the International Criminal Court (ICC) and bring claims against Israeli leaders and a UN Security Council resolution demanding a full Israeli retreat from the West Bank.Read More
