Islamic State Gains in Syria Despite Airstrikes

These airstrikes are for show, Obama had to be forced to do SOMETHING! Even as US-led airstrikes continued to pound the Islamic State (IS, formally ISIS) terror militia in Iraq and Syria, IS ground forces pressed their assault on the Kurdish city of Kobani in northern Syria, forcing a growing torrent of refugees over the border into Turkey. Turkish armored units have deployed on their side of the border, increasing the chances for direct Turkish military involvement in the escalating conflict. In related news, the regime of Syrian president Bashar Assad released a statement Monday negating its earlier warnings to the US not to drop bombs on Syria without coordinating with the regime. Regime Foreign Minister Walid Al Mouallem told AP that the regime is satisfied with the bombing campaign so far, as it has hit only IS and related Islamist terror militias and not troops loyal to Damascus.
