Fort Sumner, NM: De Baca County New Mexico County Sheriff’s Deputy Mylessa Denny died suddenly yesterday. Denny was in the race to become Sheriff of the County, hoping to be the first female Sheriff in New Mexico since the 1960’s.  Deputy Denny had been assigned to desk duty due to a foot injury and had just completed her shift. Denny collapsed outside the Sheriff’s office in the parking lot and was taken to the Clovis, New Mexico hospital where she died, she was 39 years old. Denny was a U.S. Army Veteran and openly gay, she had won the June Democratic primary for County Sheriff and was set to face Deputy Kurt Griego in the general election. New Mexico law calls for the County’s Democratic Party Central Committee to appoint a candidate to replace Denny on the ballot. Deputy Denny is survived by her partner, Christ Scovel and two children, Codi Ann 17 and Calin 14. Our prayers are with the family.Breaking news
