Fighting For Faith and Freedom

Today I addressed the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority conference in Washington, D.C. The event featured a star-studded lineup of conservative leaders including Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and Allen West. The audience was enthusiastic and can’t wait to cast their ballots this November!

I used the opportunity to catalogue the left’s repeated attacks on our values and urged men and women of faith to stand up and fight back.

Open Borders Backlash

A new Gallup poll finds that just 31% of Americans approve of Barack Obama’s handling of immigration policy, while 65% disapprove. When it comes to immigration what is Obama most associated with? A de facto open borders policy.

He has adamantly refused to enforce our immigration laws. He has fought individual states that have attempted to enforce the law. He has reinstituted “catch and release.” He has issued executive orders granting amnesty to so-called “Dreamers,” and he is demanding Congress approve a quasi-amnesty bill for millions more.

As a result, we have a crisis on our southern border where a thousand illegal immigrants a day are entering the country, many of them unaccompanied minor children.

No wonder many Americans are looking at this mess and shaking their heads in disbelief.

Border security is national security and securing our border — not amnesty — must be our first priority. In a letter to President Obama today, Speaker John Boehner demanded that the National Guard be immediately deployed to the southern border.

Speaking of border security, Minnesota Public Radio reports that in recent weeks more than a dozen Somali-American men from the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area have left the country to wage jihad in Syria.

Mohamud Noor, executive director of the Confederation of Somali Community in Minnesota, warned, “Most of [those who left] don’t have the resources to even buy a ticket to go to Chicago. So that means there [are] some influential individuals who are taking advantage of our youth.”

Well, that is one way to put it. But more accurately, the Somali community’s youth apparently have been infected with jihad virus.

At least one of the U.S. Somali men may be fighting now with ISIS in Iraq. If they left the country, they likely have U.S. visas, which means they could return as battle-hardened jihadists.

New House Leadership

Yesterday House Republicans huddled on Capitol Hill to elect new leaders in the aftermath of Rep. Eric Cantor’s shocking primary defeat. California’s Kevin McCarthy was elected to replace Cantor as Majority Leader, while Louisiana’s Steve Scalise was chosen to be Majority Whip.

There was not much enthusiasm among conservatives for McCarthy. But these results may be temporary as leadership elections for the new Congress will take place after the November elections.
