Albuquerque, New Mexico — In a continued effort to streamline the purchase of health insurance, the New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange (NMHIX) has introduced another tool to help consumers calculate costs and compare plan benefits. The new calculator is designed for small business owners purchasing plans for their employees.
Similar to the “NM Care Compare” tool, which launched at the beginning of the 2014 open enrollment for individuals, the “NM SHOP Compare” calculator helps employers compare costs and plan benefits without first having to register through the small business site.
“We understand that there is a lot of information to sort through. And we understand that a lot of small business owners and insurance agents are interested in the products we offer but need a more efficient way to sort through plan details. We’re offering this new calculator to help make the decision process more business friendly so that small business owners can spend their time doing what they do best – running their companies,” said Mike Nuñez, Interim CEO of NMHIX.
While the Open Enrollment period for individuals to obtain insurance and have coverage in 2014 through the Exchange ends on March 31, 2014, there is no such deadline for the small business owners. SHOP enrollment continues on a rolling monthly basis.
Users of the “NM SHOP Compare” tool are given costs and plan benefits based on parameters they set. “It’s a good first step in the decision process,” said Nuñez, “As always, there are insurance agents and brokers statewide to help employers find plans that best suits their needs.”
The names and contact information of certified agents are available through the New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange website BeWellNM.com using the ‘Find An Agent’ feature https://bewellnm.com/find-an-agent/. “These people do this for a living. They know all the intricacies of the plans and they can help employers figure out not only what’s best for the staff, but what’s best for the company’s bottom line,” Nuñez said.
