Last night I was attending a class that is linked with a Biblical Counseling course I am taking. In the interaction portion of the evening, the idea of being God’s Favorite came up. I personally enjoy the topic because I am convinced that I am God’s Favorite! Before you shake your head and turn away, I hope you might pause a moment in your day to take to heart a few thoughts on how you, too, are one of God’s favorites.

In my class, I listened closely as people shared the various reasons they struggle thinking they might be God’s favorite. From self-condemning feelings of guilt to suggestions the idea is absurd, clearly we as humans wrestle with the idea

However, ponder with me value and uniqueness:

~You are fearfully and wonderfully made, (Psalm 139:14-15) The amplified version states in verse 15, “My frame was not hidden from You when I was being formed in secret [and] intricately and curiously wrought [as if embroidered with various colors]…”

~You are the apple of His eye, (Zechariah 2:8)

~He desires to see YOUR face because it is lovely to Him; He wants to hear YOUR voice because to Him it is sweet (Song of Songs 2:14)

~He delights in you and rejoices over you with singing, (Zephaniah 3:17)

~You are uniquely created according to His plan and purposes, “But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as He wanted them to be.” (1 Corinthians 12:18) and “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)

~You are as individual and shining like a star in the heavens, “…you shine like stars in the universe, as you hold out the Word of Life..”(Ephesians 2:14-15)

~YOU were the joy set before Christ that compelled Him to endure the cross, (Hebrews 12:2)

~God SO loved YOU, that He sent His only Son (John 3:16)

I encourage you to let those scriptures above be a starting point in a treasure hunt of cross referencing and asking God to reveal His heart for you; I am certain of the wealth you will unearth where your value is concerned.

Of course, you may say that these few verses only demonstrate that God’s love is the same for all, they don’t necessarily point to a more fine tuned example of “favorite?”  I like to look closer at how we are created in His image, we see that just as in scripture we can celebrate that “God, there is none like You!” would it be safe to say He made an indelible print on our fingers, uniquely our own to express His thought that, “My child, there is none like YOU!”

Today, I challenge you take moments throughout your day to open your hands and look down at them, taking in the unique pattern of fingerprints that are uniquely your own. I pray that in those moments, you are able to receive God celebrating you, singing over you, delighting in you and then realize that YOU are His favorite YOU! Go smilin’!
