crossing guard 2Yesterday I stopped and talked to the School Crossing Guards near our home. I apologized that they had to slow me down a bit the other day by sounding their whistle at me as I was thinking about someone in need and not paying attention. They thought I was going to complain to them about something, as they, believe it or not, get verbally attacked and even threatened at times. They were touched that I came to apologize, I was very touched that they were so understanding. They have others who come by and apologize to them that is the good news. They shared with me a very touching story that recently took place. A car came speeding down the road through the School crossing, they sounded their whistles to no avail, they yelled, the nearby construction workers who were working the road also yelled at the driver to slow down as she sped through.

A little while later a car slowly pulled up to the Crossing Guards, it was the car that had sped through the School crossing. The driver approached them and was crying and she said, “I am so very, very sorry that I was speeding and paying no attention, I was on my phone with my son who was telling me my grandson was dying.”

You never know what people are going through.

  1. Good reminder! I believe the Spirit in me said: God IS Wise in asking us to be patient and kind. Amazing how quick human nature can be … but so beautiful to see God’s compassion revealed. God understands …lovingly & justly …His love is perfect for us. I pray I will always remember this …
