Opposition to Israel’s attempts to defend itself and disarm those trying to destroy the small nation are growing louder and more violent worldwide. A demonstration in Frankfurt, Gemany against Operation Protective Edge erupted into violence, with protesters tossing stones at the police.
Meanwhile, clashes erupted in Paris on Sunday as thousands of people protested against Israel and in support of residents in the Gaza Strip, where a six-day conflict has left 168 Palestinians dead.
The violence and hatred wasn’t limited to Europe as a federal officer attempting to break up an altercation during a pro-Israel demonstration Sunday at the federal building in Westwood, CA fired a single shot but no one was harmed, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said.
That rally, which drew some 500 people, was breaking up about 5:45 p.m. when Israel supporters and pro-Palestinian protesters began to clash, said sheriff’s Deputy Juanita Navarro.
An officer with the Department of Homeland Security sought to intervene and fired his weapon once, Navarro said.
In France, Pro-Palestinian protesters tried to force their way into a Paris synagogue Sunday with bats and chairs, then fought with security officers who blocked their way, according to police and a witness. It should be noted that France is home to Western Europe’s largest Muslim population and largest Jewish community.
At least three Jews were taken to hospital as a result of the clashes that erupted on Sunday between the protesters and young Jewish men who guarded the Synagogue de la Roquette in Paris, a witness told JTA.
Back to Germany where antisemitism didn’t go so well last time, about 2,500 protesters appeared in downtown Frankfurt, screaming “God is great,” and slogans such as “freedom for Palestine” and “children-murderer Israel.” Just a shot in the dark, but I believe these were Muslims as well.
Eight police officers were injured. One sign at the rally was titled, “You Jews are Beasts.”
It should come as no surprise that such things are occurring around the world. We should expect even worse in the days ahead.
