poor manThe Poor Man, The Wise Man

I read a few days ago where King Solomon in the Book Of Ecclesiastes in chapter 9 vs 14 and following speaks of a poor man whose wisdom saved a city. I had to read this again today. He goes on to say the man got no recognition for his wisdom. ” nobody remembered the poor man”

“Nobody remembered the poor man”

My 1st take on this was OK , but the message got out and the city was saved. Right? Unfortunately , wrong, ” the poor mans wisdom is despised, and his words are no longer heeded” is Solomon’s commentary concluding the story. The good did not last because the good man was not appreciated.

Being appreciated is blessed to all …especially the person of faith. It is far from giving glory to a mere mortal. Poor men and women need encouragement because if real wisdom is offered it will be ridiculed by the spirit and mindset of the time. Are we influenced by this mindset ? Of course we are. That’s why the poor mans message has such value. He, she, has an alternative mind set to the city that is burning, but only the poor can see this.

In Christian circles one often hears that “they” the unbeliever needs this so let’s be excellent. Do we ever consider that the message the poor man gives , challenges ” excellence”as we city dwellers perceive it. It is the wealth that is the mindset of the city.

The holy message is an embarrassment to those who want Jesus, and prestige in this world. Do not be too quick to say” them” on this point. The gospel is for you. Me, us. Conviction of pride is a gift from God for you and any one who hears.
