Proverbs 14:30
Have you ever just looked at somebody else with a little bit of envy in your heart?
We’ve all done it. Perhaps it’s envying how they look, where they live, what they drive, or maybe where they work.
What you don’t know is, there’s a whole other story to their life, other than what is seen, in most cases anyway.
What goes on behind closed doors, behind those four walls are the things that are unseen that we know nothing about. And often times it’s a devastating situation.
As for me, my feet had almost stumbled,
my steps had nearly slipped.
For I was envious of the arrogant
when I saw the prosperity of the wicked
Psalm 73:2&3
Psalm 73 talks of the slippery slope of envy. When he saw the prosperity of the wicked. His eye was fixed too much on one thing; he saw their present, and forgot their future, saw their outward display, and overlooked their soul’s discomfort.
We’ve all heard of the twins, Jealousy and envy. Both will leave you in bondage and keep you from moving forward and receiving the blessings God has for you.
Comparison is the thief of joy. The moment you start comparing yourself to other people, you’ll start thinking of the things you don’t have and that takes your mind off of God and the things you do have. And you’ll miss all He has blessed you with.
Envy can cause you to have mean thoughts towards others. But instead we should be content and thankful for what we do have. Envy is basically counting your neighbors blessings instead of counting your own. And that is wrong.
But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.
James 3:14&15
So, just try to remember that when you have envious or jealous thoughts about somebody else’s life, there’s always more to the story than meets the eye.
The grass always looks greener in the other side, but remember, that it’s probably fake sod.
In other words, just because someone’s life seems lavish to you, that doesn’t mean it is. You just don’t know the hardships they may be facing. Or the life they may be faking.
Be content with what God has blessed you with. Keep your eyes on your own paper and keep your eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfector of your faith.
God has given you what you need, at this time, and to him it is perfect.
