Netanyahu and Obama (Israel GPO)Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with US President Barack Obama in the Oval Office on Monday, appearing for a joint press conference in which the two leaders spoke about their priorities for the summit and joint efforts in the Middle East. Netanyahu’s remarks, clearly meant for the American public as much as the President, included a re-iteration of the dangers posed by Iran’s renegade nuclear program and a reminder that regarding the hopes for a peace deal with the Palestinians “Israel has been doing its part, and I regret to say that the Palestinians haven’t.” Netanyahu continued by saying “What we want is peace – not a piece of paper. Israel, the Jewish state, is the realization of the Jewish people’s right to self-determination. I think it’s about time they recognized a nation state for the Jewish people.
