The Christian Post. Myanmar’s military junta has shot and killed a Baptist pastor in the Christian-majority Chin state, the third killing of a pastor there in about three and a half months, according to a religious freedom group that is pressing the U.S. government to act. Soldiers opened fire on the Rev. Dal Thawn Tuang, 49, who served as assistant pastor at Lamzang Baptist Church, hitting him three times close to the Kapte bridge as he made his way home from religious duties in a neighboring village on Monday, the U.S.-based persecution watchdog International Christian Concern (ICC) reports. The bullets hit his chest, abdomen and thigh.

This morning we mourn the death of Rev. Dal Thawn Tuang. We are praying for his family and congregation. This situation in Myanmar is horrible! Satan is having his way with so many. It is hard for me to wrap my mind around the gunning down of a Pastor or anybody else. Lord, have mercy.

I say ‘Lord, have mercy’ several times each day, as I see all the needs of the world, all the senseless killings, and so many families which lose loved ones every day. I seek the Lord constantly, as it’s the only way I get through my days. So many people need prayer.

I adore Bob Hostetler‘s definition of Lord, have mercy.

The prayer, “Lord, have mercy,” is a confession of need—either my own need or someone else’s need. I may pray it as a confession of sin, but I may also say those words to acknowledge that I lack the resources to meet my own need. And, often, I pray, “Lord, have mercy,” for someone else, sometimes without knowing their specific need, as a way of asking God to turn His attention toward a hurting or helpless person.

Obviously, any prayer—if it’s sincere—reflects an awareness (or hope) that God is there, and He is listening. Otherwise, why pray anything? But “Lord, have mercy,” when offered in faith, is an affirmation not only of God’s existence but also of His proximity. He is there, He is near, and He is listening.
