I am so sad about all the job cuts in radio and TV. I started my radio days in 1978 at Brown Institute and I was also interning at the Minnesota State News Network during that time, where my passion for news turned into a lifetime mission.
My first full-time job in radio was at KGCX in Sidney, Montana in 1979. I turned 70 on July 4th of this year. Back in 1978 who would have thought about anything like artificial intelligence (“AI”)? Not me! I was so excited to get into local radio and communicate with folks.
It was in the early 1980s when I was introduced to radio automation and prerecorded programming when I went to work for WCOE FM in LaPorte, Indiana. I went to work at WFRN Christian radio in South Bend/Elkhart, Indiana about 39 years ago. It was a job of a lifetime for me. I learned so much about my LORD and how to operate a Christian station. I have to thank the entire Moore family for my education there. My first day of work at WFRN, General Manager Ed Moore, who has passed on, called me into his office and the first thing he said to me was, “So Dewey, how are you and the LORD getting along.” That shook me up a bit! HA! The Lord came first with Ed and the entire Moore family! My time at WFRN was a time of great growth in my personal relationship with JESUS! I learned how to operate a Christian station that would compete with secular stations.
My last stop in radio was when I became GM of KKIM Christian radio. I left KKIM AM/FM Christian radio in Albuquerque/Santa Fe 14 years ago, as God called me and Sharon to form For God’s Glory Alone Ministries! KKIM AM was sold to another company and lost its local identity. KKIM FM changed formats. It was at KKIM where I hired the late, great Frank Haley as news director. It was a blessing during that time when Frank was inducted into the New Mexico Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
Time is flying by very fast for me. Brown Institute closed up shop years ago. KGCX in Sidney signed off the air many years ago. Corporations have taken over many radio stations over the years. I saw that coming and experienced it in the last years of my radio life. I thank the LORD for all my days in radio and now in full-time ministry. I really learned how to communicate with people through all my years in radio.
One of my instructors at Brown, the late, great Mike Kronforst, taught me to speak to my audience like I was at the breakfast table with them. THANK YOU, LORD, FOR MIKE! Over my years, I have been a Sunday School teacher in Mishawaka Indiana and Los Alamos, New Mexico, and was an Associate Pastor for Pastor Jim Montoya in Los Lunas, New Mexico. I served as a Circuit Preacher at the First Baptist Church of Reserve, New Mexico, as needed, for nine years. I am currently serving every fourth Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Pie Town, New Mexico, for Pastor John Goldshot. Glory to God in the Highest!
I have the job of a lifetime as Pastor of For God’s Glory Alone Ministries! I am blessed to have my precious wife Sharon right by my side to keep me in order! AMEN!
One of the biggest blows to radio was when CBS radio news closed up shop. I was so saddened by that news. It has to go down in the history books of radio in America. CBS News Radio shuttered on Friday after nearly a century of broadcasting, with its final newscast coming to close with the voice of Edward R. Murrow and his famous sign off, “Good night, and good luck.” More Here

Media giant E.W. Scripps is eliminating 268 positions across its television operations as part of a sweeping shift toward streaming, centralized production, artificial intelligence, and automation. The cuts are hitting local stations nationwide, with producers, directors, technical employees, and some on-air staff among those affected. Scripps says the transformation will modernize its newsrooms, automate traditional production work, and allow journalists to publish updates throughout the day across television, digital platforms, and 24-hour local streaming channels.
The company previously announced plans to use AI and automation to help generate as much as $125 million to $150 million in annualized earnings improvement by 2028. But local journalists and former employees are sounding the alarm. Critics fear that shrinking newsroom staffs could mean fewer experienced people checking facts, covering local government, developing community sources, and responding when breaking news happens. They warn that using technology to replace human judgment could weaken public trust and create a dangerous precedent for the future of reliable local news. Please watch the video report below:
