Psalm 1:1-2
To delight is to take extreme pleasure in something. We should genuinely love God and desire to align our lives with His truth—His Word—both day and night.
Recently, after a sermon from my pastor, I decided to figure out how to bring verse 2 to fruition. I’m on a quest; I’m fervently seeking God’s truth, all that he has to offer, and learning to trust him in all circumstances. No matter what!
Obviously, it starts with making God’s Word a part of our daily routine.
“If you incline your ear to wisdom and direct your heart to understanding, if you truly call out to insight and lift your voice to understanding, if you seek it like silver and search it out like hidden treasure, then you will discern the fear of the LORD and discover the knowledge of God.”
Proverbs 2:2-5
Search for wisdom like you’d search for a hidden treasure. If you knew there was a priceless treasure hidden in your back yard, you’d leave no stone unturned searching for it. This is how we should be searching for wisdom from God.
Meditate on His law day and night, and delight yourself in it.
I want to know God more than ever, to bask in his goodness, and to seek His favor. There are so many times in our lives that we tend to try to do things on our own. When we suddenly find ourselves in chaos or despair, the very first thing we do is either worry or stress out, and I know for myself, I fall apart.
Why is it that we tend to do those things instead of going to God immediately? I believe it’s because we have stored up in our hearts fear, doubt, and unbelief. This is where basking in God, delighting ourselves in this law, and memorizing scripture comes into play.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”
Proverbs 3:5
“And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.”
Psalm 9:10
“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17
The Word of God is our Lamp to guide us in the darkest of times.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:105
