The Christian Post reports that the gunman who triggered a lockdown at the White House on Saturday evening (5/23/2026) has been identified as 21-year-old Nasire Best of Maryland, who was already known to the U.S. Secret Service and had violated previous court orders to stay away from the White House grounds.

Best brandished a revolver and got off two or three shots before being taken down by U.S. Secret Service outside a White House checkpoint at 17th Street NW and Pennsylvania Avenue. He died during transport to a local hospital.

According to the Education Post, Nasire Best’s motive was unclear, although early findings suggested he was mentally disturbed and believed he was a modern-day incarnation of Jesus Christ. Investigators suspect the attack may have stemmed from his mental instability, though they are continuing to examine whether any political motive may have played a role.

My brothers and sisters, while the exact reason(s) for Best’s actions will probably never be fully known by the public, it seems clear that given his history with law enforcement and because he suffered with mental health issues, there was a pattern of poor judgment and acting out in an evil manner.

Thank God that other than one injured bystander, no innocent person was killed or severely wounded.

The Bible tells us that God’s plan for His children is peace and not evil; however, those who do not know the Lord may fall prey to the plans of the evil one:

Jeremiah 29:11-12 (NKJV)
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.”

John 10:10 (NKJV)
“The thief [the devil or Satan] does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I [Jesus] have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Let’s pray as Jesus taught His disciples:

Matthew 6:9-13 (NKJV)
The Lord’s Prayer
“In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, [h]allowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done [o]n earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts [trespasses], [a]s we forgive our debtors [those who trespass against us]. And do not lead us into temptation, [b]ut deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
