John Thurman is a dear friend of mine and of this ministry. As a counselor, he is very wise and is a blessing to those suffering with grief. Here is a message he recently sent to me, which with his permission, is included below:
Summer
I hope you’re having a wonderful summer! During this season, many of us are juggling vacations, family visits, and summer activities. I know that we have been on the road a lot. I attended a Writer’s Conference, the Joni and Friends, Warrior Getaway, and Angie and I spent some time with the Texas branch of our family.
The Impact of the Floods in Texas and New Mexico
But amidst the laughter and fireworks, our hearts grew heavy as we heard reports of the devastating floods in Texas and the smaller yet impactful events in New Mexico. The reality hit home as these disasters took loved ones from their families, leaving behind a trail of grief and uncertainty.
How to Support a Grieving Friend
This heartbreaking news made me pause and reflect on something essential—how to support someone who has experienced the sudden, unexpected loss of a loved one. As Christians, we understand that grief is a journey that can feel isolating, but it’s crucial to walk alongside those who are hurting.
Please know that you are not alone in this journey.
