On Tuesday (4/1/2025), Republican Party of New Mexico (“RPNM”) Chair Amy Barela joined Newsmax on its show National Report. She said that there weren’t many people in New Mexico untouched by crime because of open borders and that the Land of Enchantment is “first in everything bad” because of leftist policies.
Barela appeared on the show only hours after an apparent arsonist set fire to the RPNM headquarters in Albuquerque, New Mexico, which destroyed the entranceway to the building, and is currently under investigation by local and federal authorities, including the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
During her appearance, Barela told Newsmax:
“Ninety-five years, New Mexico has voted the same way. And so we are last in everything good and first in everything bad in the state of New Mexico. Over the last few years, our crime has even worsened because of open borders. And, you know, fentanyl, everything, everything is No. 1 in the state of New Mexico.”

My brothers and sisters, FGGAM has been reporting for years about New Mexico’s broken criminal justice system; violence; theft; murder; homelessness driven by illegal immigration and ‘sanctuary city’ policies; abortion; assisted suicide; marijuana production, use and sales; the decade’s-long issue of drunk drivers; and the list goes on.
The answer will always be found in Jesus! The State of New Mexico is an example of what seeking and implementing the wisdom of the world instead of the wisdom of God brings!
Let’s pray for the perpetrator(s) of the RPNM arson to be found and prosecuted (as appropriate), but more importantly, that this would lead to genuine repentance.
Let’s also pray that this incident is used by God to open the eyes and ears of the people of New Mexico, because when politics becomes the beginning and end-all of our existence, something that could be used for the good of us all quickly becomes the playground of Satan.
New Mexico needs Jesus! Let’s pray that true, unwavering, unapologetic faith in the Bible would flourish in our state, bringing needed change in society. Holding a Biblical Worldview is essential to the Christian faith, and allows those who name Jesus as Lord to walk victoriously in this sinful world, where many believe that faith in Jesus is some sort of ‘fairy tale’ or a ‘crutch’ for the weak-minded person. Lord, have mercy!
The truth is that Jesus is always faithful! He gives us knowledge, understanding and wisdom, and shields us from evil!
