According to reporting by the Washington Free Beacon, Israel’s official position is that U.S. President Donald J. Trump could negotiate a “good” deal to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon; however, unofficially, Israeli decision makers believe U.S.-Iran nuclear talks, which begin today (4/12/2025) in Oman, will almost certainly end in either failure or disaster.

From Israel’s perspective, the best plausible outcome of the talks would be failure—the sooner the better. The disaster would be if Trump allowed Iran to drag out the talks indefinitely or agreed to a deal that allowed Iran to remain a nuclear threshold state.

Retired military intelligence officer and former Deputy Director General of Israel’s Strategic Affairs Ministry, Kobi Michael, stated that:

Israel was “beginning to doubt Trump’s determination vis-a-vis Iran” and that “I don’t think Prime Minister Netanyahu believes that negotiations with Iran can lead to a successful agreement that will prevent Iran from advancing its military nuclear capabilities.”

The Washington Free Beacon article may be read in its entirety HERE.

My brothers and sisters, Iran has indirectly supported terror against Israel for decades, including operations by Hamas, Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthis, and recently attacked Israel directly with ballistic missiles, not once but twice, requiring U.S. military intervention to destroy most of the projectiles.

Iran refuses to recognize the official existence of Israel, threating to ‘wipe it off the map’ and refers to it as the “Little Satan” – while referring to the United States as the “Great Satan.”

Even when this writer was in the military from 1986-1998, it was well understood and taught that Iran was the greatest sponsor and actor of state terrorism in the world.  Let’s not forget the Iranian hostage crisis from November 4, 1979, to January 20, 1981, occurring under the leadership of U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who oversaw a failed military mission to free the U.S. Embassy hostages and was unable to reach any sort of agreement for their release prior to U.S. President Ronald Reagan assuming office.

This reveals an important truth about terroristic governments and radical theocracies.  They are ideologically focused and are highly unlikely to change their views and policies except under one condition – the credible threat of military action leading to their demise!  I assure you that Iran only released the hostages because it KNEW that Reagan would take military (and other) action that would be exceedingly detrimental to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Please understand that I am not hoping for, and certainly not praying for, a military conflict; however, I am also balancing the fact that godly wisdom is that Iran should not be trusted.  Its leaders and ruling government are evil, and the existential threat of direct confrontation (as with the Mutually Assured Destruction or “MAD” deterrent of the Cold War) is what it will take to bring Iran’s leadership its knees.  Waiting until a rogue nuclear weapon or huge ‘dirty’ bomb lands in the middle of Tel Aviv or Jerusalem is not a prudent course of action.

Let’s continue to pray for a change of heart with Iran’s rulers and for the wisdom of God to prevail when it comes to international relations, the acceptance of the state of Israel and its people, and the prevention of regional or global nuclear war due to the evil regime heading the government of Iran.

Let’s also pray for the leaders of the United States (and all Western nations) to walk in godly wisdom as it fights evil, and that it would not succumb to deceit in any of the ongoing negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Proverbs 2:6-8 (NLT)
“For the Lord grants wisdom!  From [H]is mouth come knowledge and understanding.  He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest.  He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.  He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to [H]im.”

1 Corinthians 3:19 (NKJV)
“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.  For it is written, ‘He catches the wise in their own craftiness…’”.

Ecclesiastes 9:16-18 (NKJV)
“Then I said:  ‘[w]isdom is better than strength.  Nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, [a]nd his words are not heard.  Words of the wise, spoken quietly, should be heard [r]ather than the shout of a ruler of fools.  Wisdom is better than weapons of war; [b]ut one sinner destroys much good.’”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
