How to Pray in Hope for Your Family

Dion Elmore: People often ask me, ‘How do you pray?’, so I thought I’d have you walk with me, as I outline my daily routine. When I pray for my family, I begin with me. I ask the Lord to reveal where I am falling short as a husband, father, brother, uncle and son, and what I need to change in me. I then ask for the Holy Spirit to fill me so that I am an example of Jesus to those I love. If Colossians 3:3 is true, “For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”, then I need to do a better job of ‘hiding’ and getting out of the way so that my family sees and experiences Jesus through me.

About the National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress’ proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May. The next National Day of Prayer is May 1, 2025.
