California Teenage Rescuer Bravely Rides Horse 14 Miles Out of Burning Canyon

Kalyna Fedorowycz posted a video of herself on TikTok, explaining that the horse was not hers, but he would not load on the evacuation transport and she felt she had no choice if she wanted to save his life. “I was behind this girl and her dad in the canyon that day,” said one person in comments. “We talked while the canyon was burning. They were so amazing with this horse who was tired and spooked. Much love, Kalyna, you are amazing.”

As wildfires continues to rage across Southern California, residents and rescuers are doing everything possible to protect not only the people endangered in this horrific disaster but also the many animals being affected by the blaze. As rescue centers fill with lost and missing dogs, cries for help have reverberated all over social media. There’s a lot of anger out there, too, at the presumption that these “lost pets” were abandoned when the forest hit the homes. But in many cases, they are indeed lost. Often, the homes went up in flames while people were gone at work. Other times, the chaos and fear of an approaching fire could cause skittish animals to bolt or hide. Let’s try to have sympathy for all the people—and the pets—caught up in this terrible situation.

Kalyna Fedorowycz is a sixteen-year-old equestrian who has been helping to transport horses away from the Southern California wildfires. But when a horse recently was too scared to get aboard the transport trailer, she took a more hands-on approach and actually rode the animal out of the canyon herself. More Here
