Crossroads of Hate: Understanding Antisemitism in Universities and a Changing World

It has been utterly shocking to watch the world embrace antisemitic attitudes practically overnight. It should be understood, however, that it was the veneer of support for the Jewish people and the state of Israel that fell away.

It was the Christianity of Western Civilization and the United States that fostered a love of the Jews among its people. A study of Romans 9 makes it clear that while Israel was allowed temporary blindness for the sake of the gentile nations to come to Christ, the Lord was not done with His people.

This week, we have seen antisemitism reach a boiling point on university campuses across the United States and even among politicians who once claimed to support Israel and Jews.

Columbia has been the primary focus this week. The university located in New York City has decided to move to remote learning because its president, Minouche Shafik, has been unwilling or unable to control pro-Palestinian protests. Rabbi Elie Buechler sent a letter warning students against attending class in person this week.

President Joe Biden showed his typical weakness as he continues to pander to Michigan voters by having his own ‘very fine people on both sides’ moment.

A female reporter yelled out, “Do you condemn the anti-Semitic protests on college campuses?”

The president replied, “I condemn the anti-Semitic protests. That’s why I’ve set up a program to deal with that.” Then came the moment, “I also condemn those who don’t understand what’s going on with the Palestinians. And their, how they’re being — ” his voice growing fainter.

There are still American leaders who think it is vital to fight antisemitism on college campuses. Senator Josh Hawley is calling on President Biden to activate the National Guard to defend Jewish students.

He wrote on X:

”Eisenhower sent the 101st to Little Rock,” Hawley wrote. “It’s time for Biden to call out the National Guard at our universities to protect Jewish Americans.”

Why is antisemitism so bad? Well, hatred is always a bad thing that leads to other bad things, but antisemitism is a special problem, as Jews have found out throughout history.

A quick study of the book of Revelation bears this out as the goal of Satan from before Jesus was born, but especially after His death and resurrection, the devil’s goal has been to take his wrath out on the Jewish people.

So what comes next? As I have said many times over the years, antisemitism has reached a fever pitch in America and worldwide. Why? To drive the children of Israel to the land of Israel and for them to depend on no one else but the Lord.
