Healing past hurts.

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

Isaiah 43:18-19

We all have issues we have to deal with, and sort through. Whether it’s something in our past that we did, or even something somebody else did to hurt us.

None of us are exempt from these types of hurts.

First of all, know that if you’ve been hurt to the point of letting it affect your daily life, you must seek counseling.

Many times, our hurt leads to addictions of some sort. I believe that’s because we’re not able to deal with our circumstances, so we turn to something, other than God, for comfort.

And also, I believe that there are some circumstances we do not want to talk about, or share with other people, and this is detrimental to our spiritual growth.

As believers, we have to believe that God sustains us through these difficult times. Most people, whether they admit it or not, have gone through hurtful events and again, either it was self-inflicted or somebody else inflicted this pain that caused trauma upon us.

Either way, we must work on getting better and healthy, while seeking God’s help.

If there are issues we haven’t resolved, chances are we could pass the hurtful behavior on to our children and grandchildren.

We cannot give what we don’t have. So, it’s imperative we we heal our brokenness.

God is the only one that can heal specific memories and trauma that cause so much pain. It’s something we must include Him in, by praying for him to set us free from thoughts that ruin our day.

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:5

One of Satan’s great ploys is keeping your mind in such a dark place. If he succeeds in this, you can’t worship God. Satan’s plan is now in full effect and you’re probably going to withdraw into depression and / or addiction.

Remember, the devil isn’t playing around.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

John 10:10

When you hear or remember something that triggers you, you must give that particular hurt to God, immediately. Maybe you need to forgive someone else or even yourself.

Living in this fallen world is hard and sometimes unfair. Pain and suffering are inevitable. We may never forget our past trauma, but we can choose how we look at it.

Remembering that God is close to us and He can heal us.

“But to you who fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; and you shall go out and grow fat like stall-fed calves.”

Malachi 4:2

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong and steadfast.

1 Peter 5:10

We cannot control the action’s of others, but rest assured, every single person will give an account for their actions. You will be vindicated!

For the Lord will vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants.

Psalm 135:14

One day, we will be in the arms of Jesus and there will be no more awful memories, painful hurts and needless trauma.

Tell God your pain, He is big and can handle it. Be honest with yourself, don’t deny your pain. You don’t have to tell everyone about your pain, but you need to tell someone. Seek assistance.

And lastly, when you forgive someone who has hurt you, you’re not saying they had no fault, rather you’re doing it for your own sanity and for those closest to you.

Sometimes we’re afraid that forgiveness means “they” are getting away with what they’ve done to us, but to believe this, we must assume that God didn’t see what was done to us. We know that’s not true!

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Revelation 21:4

Live a life full of trust in Christ. A life that your children don’t have to recover from.

Many Blessing’s,

Connie
