For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.

Ephesians 2:8-9

Many people might think and hope that they can earn their way to heaven. That when they stand before God they’ve done enough good things to enter into heaven, but scripture clearly says you cannot.

As I’m evangelizing, I’ve had people say;

I’m a good person.

I don’t hurt anyone.

I help the poor.

I donate my time.

I attend church .. and the list can go on.

They believe that on judgement day, which is inevitable, they will stand before God and he will weigh their good works against their sin and the good deeds will be enough. That’s a lie from satan, straight from the pit.  FYI, he’s the father of ALL lies (John8:44).

Jesus is the only one good enough to save you. We are not good enough and we cannot do good works to get in.

It is not humanly possible to reach the level of good works you’d need to satisfy an all Powerful, Almighty God.

So, if you think that being a decent person is  sufficient enough, you’re only fooling yourself. We are responsible to know the truth which is in Scripture.

There are no excuses.

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

Romans 1:20

Our good works cannot save us. If we could be saved by good works, then Christ died for nothing!

As it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one”

Romans 3:10

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

1 John 1:7

We cannot make ourselves clean.  Only the blood of Jesus can do that.

For the wages of sin is death.

Romans 6:23

Just because you give to the poor and do good deeds doesn’t automatically make you a good person, as good deeds alone don’t change your heart which is deceitful and naturally evil. We’re sinners from the word, GO.

The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

Jeremiah 17:9

Another reason our good works cannot save us is that without the shedding of blood, there can be no remission of sins.

In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

Hebrews 9:22

Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus.

Hebrews 10:19

So then, how can we be saved and know for sure we are going to heaven?

In order to be saved, we must put our faith in the finished sacrificial work of Jesus Christ on the cross at Calvary for our sins.

👉🏻You should declare with your mouth that “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved.  Romans 10:9… There you have it folks!

For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

Romans 10:10

We cannot be saved by good works, but when we are saved, we will produce good works.

Many Blessings,

Connie

  1. Thank you Connie for writing these Devotions. So many times I hear or read people say he/she are in Heaven now. Unless you have heard them confess, with their mouth, you don’t know, only they and God knows. Keep up the good fight love you…
