The Associated Press (“AP” or “AP News”) reports that tensions have been building for weeks between Sudan’s two most powerful generals, who just 18 months earlier jointly orchestrated an October 2021 military coup to derail the nation’s transition to democracy.

On Saturday morning, at a military base near Khartoum, those tensions between Sudan’s Armed Forces Chief, General Abdel-Fattah Burhan, and the head of the Rapid Support Forces (“RSF”), General Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, erupted into a battle for control of the country of more than 46 million people.

In a follow up report, AP News is also reporting today that Sudanese families are huddling in their homes for a third day in Khartoum and elsewhere, as the rival forces battle in the streets.  At least 97 civilians have reportedly been killed as a result of the gunbattles, airstrikes and bombardment – with hospitals and humanitarian aid groups being attacked and having to suspend operations.

My brothers and sisters, Sudan, with its millions of citizens, is in desperate need of prayer and God’s intervention.  Whether Americans or Sudanese, all of us are made in God’s image and likeness, and we need Jesus!

Let’s pray for the country of Sudan, asking for God’s intervention in the hearts of the country’s leadership, its military and power-hungry generals, and for the protection of its citizens.  May there be a supernatural touch in the hearts of those who see fighting as the best option – with a turning to the wisdom found in reason, compassion and the love of God.  Let’s stand in agreement that the years of continual upheaval in Sudan would finally come to an end, in Jesus’ name, with all the glory going to God Almighty – as the land enjoys true freedom and peace.

Genesis 1:26 (ESV)
“Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.'”

Psalm 37:10-12 (NLT)
“Soon the wicked will disappear.  Though you look for them, they will be gone.  The lowly will possess the land and will live in peace and prosperity.”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
