Early this morning, Colorado’s Park County Coroner’s Office announced that the body of Austin Lyle, 17, was found in a wooded area near his car – ending the search for the alleged shooter of two administrators at Denver’s East High School.

East High School, Denver, Colorado

The Denver Police Department had publicly released a crime alert to aid in the capture of the alleged shooter:

Fox News is reporting that Lyle was undergoing a search as part of a school safety plan yesterday morning when a handgun was discovered and multiple shots were fired, hitting two school administrators.  Lyle fled the school.

Both administrators survived, although one was in critical condition.

REUTERS is reporting that the shooting came three years after the Denver school board eliminated its program of assigning armed city police officers to its public school campuses – relying instead on the school district’s own security team.

In light of yesterday’s shooting, school district superintendent Alex Marrero said that two armed police officers would be assigned to East High School for the rest of the school year.

My brothers and sisters, this was a senseless and needless tragedy.  Austin Lyle was apparently troubled and had been recently transferred to East High School, where he was subject to a security plan requiring daily searches.

Thank the Lord that both wounded administrators appear to be on the way to recovery.

Let’s pray for the high school’s students and staff, and for Austin Lyle’s entire family, asking the Lord to bring healing and a peace that is beyond our understanding.  May He turn even this tragic situation for good, bringing forth positive change, bringing God the glory.  May it be a witness to others that the wisdom of man will never be the answer.  The Answer is always Jesus.

Romans 8:28 (NKJV)
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
