Why God may be silent

Connie Keyohara

Have you ever wondered if God hears you or if he even cares?

We’ve all had those thoughts from to time to time.

I believe that we all have times and seasons of silence.

One reason we might not hear him is because we’re not walking in the place he’d have us.

You see, sin takes our focus away from God.

I heard this said before.  “A sinner can’t find God for the same reason a criminal can’t find a police officer…he’s not looking.”

Adam and Eve hid from God when they had sinned, simply because they were embarrassed and afraid.

It’s not uncommon to shy away from God when we’re in deliberate sin. When in fact, that’s the exact time we need to run to him for forgiveness and direction.

“If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.”

Psalm 66:18

Then there’s another reason to feel God’s silence, that’s because he’s giving you a season to learn.

I recently went through this myself. At the end of this time, I felt much closer to him. I wouldn’t trade that time for  anything. But no matter how silent I felt God was, I still read his word and talked to him daily. Please don’t let this silence keep you from him. He may want you to keep praying and seeking him in order to grow in your faith.

Remember in Luke 18: 1-8 the parable of the persistent widow?

She kept bringing her request to the judge for judgment on her adversary, he finally agreed to help her because she wore him down with her constant request.

Jesus explained the parable;

“And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says.  And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

Hold tight, fight the good fight and finish the race. And as always, trust Him while you wait!

“And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”

1 John 5:15

“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Jeremiah 29:12-13

Many blessings,

Connie
