Sometimes in life, a person comes along who is so open, humble, honest and anointed, that he or she affects the world for Christ in ways that are hard to measure.  Keith Green was exactly such a person.  Yes, he was a gifted musician and song writer, but there’s so much more.

He was born into a Jewish family in Brooklyn, New York on October 21, 1953, and his family moved to California shortly thereafter.  Despite involvement in the theater and a five year contract with Decca Records beginning in 1965, he accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior in 1975 and spent the rest of his life as an evangelistic-focused Christian musician.

His personal testimony was documented as part of a 1978 video, which may be viewed HERE.  [Note:  The testimony begins at approximately 4:16 of the video.]

He founded Last Days Ministries (“LDM”) in 1977, eventually moving the ministry from California to Lindale, Texas.  His wife, Melody Green, continues to lead LDM as an online ministry, where Keith Green’s writings and music may be found, and where Ms. Green publishes and shares a weekly newsletter.  The LDM website may be visited HERE.

On July 28, 1982, LDM’s overweight Cessna 414 crashed shortly following takeoff from a private airstrip on the ministry’s property in Lindale, Texas.  The crash killed 12 persons, including Keith Green and two of his young children.

On November 27, 2001, almost 20 years following his death, Keith Green was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.

As one who is always ready to worship God in music, I’d like to share a Keith Green worship song with you.  Oh Lord You’re Beautiful is a profoundly touching and powerful worship song.  There’s no better time than today to adjourn to the “secret place” to listen and worship along with this song – or share it with others!

Here is Oh Lord You’re Beautiful, recorded during the very same week the song was written:

Over the years, additional or differing lyrics have been sung, but the lyrics below are the ones transcribed directly from this initial recording:

Oh Lord, You’re beautiful
Your face is all I seek
For when Your eyes are on this child
Your love abounds to me

Oh Lord, my body’s tired
But You keep reminding me
Of many holy, tireless men
Who spilt their blood for Thee

I wanna take Your word and shine it all around
But first help me just to live it, Lord
And if I’m doing well
Help me to never make a sound
Except to give all the glory to You

Oh Lord, my faith is small
And I need a touch from You
Your book-of-books lies undisturbed
And the prayers from me, too few

Oh Lord, please light the fire
That once burned bright and clear
Replace the lamp of my first love
That’s fueled with holy fear

I wanna take Your word and shine it all around
But first help me just live it, Lord
And if I’m doing good
Please help me to never make a sound
Except to give all the glory to You

Oh Lord, You’re beautiful
Your face is all I seek
For when Your eyes are on this child
Your faith abounds to me (to me)

Psalm 27:4 (NKJV)
“One thing I have desired of the Lord, [t]hat will I seek: [t]hat I may dwell in the house of the Lord [a]ll the days of my life, [t]o behold the beauty of the Lord, [a]nd to inquire in His temple.”

Psalm 50:1-2 (NKJV)
“The Mighty One, God the Lord, [h]as spoken and called the earth [f]rom the rising of the sun to its going down.  Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God will shine forth.”

Psalm 105:3-5 (NKJV)
“Glory in His holy name; [l]et the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!  Seek the Lord and His strength; [s]eek His face evermore!”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
