Yom Kippur, the most holy day on the Hebrew calendar

Dear friends and faithful prayer partners,

Beginning at sunset tonight is the most holy day on the Hebrew calendar, Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement.

As sunset draws nearer in Israel, the day begins to take on a solemn and peaceful atmosphere, with shops closing early and the streets emptying of cars.

The whole of Israel will soon come to a complete stand-still on this one day of the year. The majority of the Jewish people will spend this High Holiday of Yom Kippur fasting, gathering in their synagogues, and praying.

On this Day of Atonement, may we search our own lives and stand accountable before the Lord for our actions, even as we “confess our sins knowing that He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). And most of all, let us “…rejoice that our name is written in heaven” (Luke 10:20).

Finally, please join us this Wednesday in a special Yom Kippur session of our weekly Isaiah 62 Global Prayer Gathering.

Blessings from Jerusalem!
