True North

‘And I will give them a heart to know Me, for I am the LORD; and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with their whole heart.’ Jeremiah 24:7

True north is the direction that points directly towards the geographic North Pole. This is a fixed point on the Earth’s globe. The North Star always points to true north. Whereas a compass could have magnetic declination to deal with.

It’s like our heart (North Star) versus our mind (compass). The Lord has given us a heart to know Him. Whether we choose to acknowledge Him or not is our prerogative. He’s there and He’s always been there.

I shared in my last post, ‘Mean Faces’, about my search for Jesus. My heart knew there was a Helper out there somewhere.

My husband, Ron, had an experience when he was a teenager. He was drunk and couldn’t seem to find his way home. It was winter and as he crossed a stream he slipped on the ice and got wet. He remembers being so tired and having a thought, ‘Well, I’ll just go to sleep.’ His Grampy Bridges had told him that hypothermia will do that to you. He closed his eyes and a voice said, “Get up and go home. You are not finished.” Several years later he was stationed in South Korea and was at the end of himself. He heard the same voice and asked, “Who are you?” Jesus said to him, “I’m the One.”

For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6

“And he who beholds Me beholds the One who sent Me.” John 12:45

‘For I am the LORD your God, who upholds your right hand; Who says to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.’ Isaiah 41:13

There’s a line in a prophecy about Damascus when everything is falling apart, but, “…in that day…”.

In that day man will have regard for his Maker, and his eyes will look to the Holy One of Israel. Isaiah 17:7

I remember a time that I was being overcome by mind traffic from my past. I couldn’t seem to shut it down that day, so I sat down, closed my eyes and said, “Jesus, I can’t stop this stuff and it’s dragging me down. Please help me.” He gave me a vision. He and I were on a path facing each other, and on both sides of the path ‘movies’ of things people had done to me and things I had done were flashing by. Jesus said, “Don’t look at those, Dove. Look at Me. Keep your eyes on Me.”

My heart, like the North Star, always points to Jesus, my True North. It’s my mind that can be like the Oklahoma winds. It’s in synch with my heart, eyes on Jesus, then a thought blows in from the north, then from the south, then they smack together in the middle and cause a tornado of unhealthy thinking. Jesus knows what it’s like to be hated, lied about, ignored, and hurt physically and emotionally. He forgave and looked forward. So can we with His help.

Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you may not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:2,3

Look what Paul said:

Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13,14

Paul was mistreated and he mistreated people in the name of religion, but look what he says.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6,7

Jesus says to us:

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” John 14:27

Forget the troubles that are behind you, just as Jesus does, and allow the One to lift your head.

“Because he who is blessed in the earth shall be blessed by the God of truth; And he who swears in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; Because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hidden from My sight!” Isaiah 65:16

But Thou, O Lord, art a shield about me, my glory, and the One who lifts my head. Psalm 3:3

Helen Howarth Lemmel wrote a beautiful hymn called ‘Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus’. Please check it out! It will bless you.

You’re not alone, ever. Jesus sent us a Helper, and He’s got us covered. Set your heart and mind on Him. He will never let you down, and He will help you out of anything you need Him to.

Elohei ‘amen, God of truth, we love You, Lord, and we know that You always hear us. Thank You for guiding us into all the truth, and for filling us with all joy and peace in believing by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank You for always leading us in Your triumph in Christ, and manifesting through us the sweet aroma of You in every place. Thank You for enlightening the eyes of our hearts so we will know the hope of Your calling, what are the riches of the glory of Your inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of Your power toward us who believe in accordance with the working of the strength of Your might. Help us to turn continually to You in all circumstances, because You are always the Answer we are looking for. May our hearts and minds be set on You, our True North, our One. Praise You forever Lord of our hearts. Amen and so be it.
