Coldest air of the season thus far to usher in the Midwest and Northeast, Drought Conditions in New Mexico, Threat of Wildfires

It was in the 50’s here yesterday in Albuquerque, another mild day. I was able to do lawn work!  Saturday I mowed the yard! I cannot remember doing that before in January! The severe problem we have here is the lack of moisture. There are areas that have had snowfall, but we have a long way to go to beat the drought. It remains so dry, drought remains a huge problem. The threat of wildfires is a concern in many areas.

What is New Mexico doing to prepare for the worsening of drought conditions, lack of water?

Frigid conditions are on their way to the northeastern United States this week after a powerful cold front sweeps through the region.

Bitter cold and high pressure are likely to arrive in the North Central states on Monday, with forecast temperatures in the middle teens in Chicago. This time of year the Windy City usually has afternoon temperatures just around freezing.

Cities up north, like Duluth, Minnesota and Grand Forks, North Dakota, won’t have temperatures rise above 0 F all day on Monday. Daily temperature departures across the Upper Midwest could be easily 10-20 degrees Fahrenheit below normal on Monday, and gusty winds will allow conditions to feel even colder. NEW YORK (AP) — New York City’s deadliest fire in more than three decades, killing 19 people including nine children Sunday at a Bronx apartment building, was caused by a faulty space heater, officials said.

Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said the fire “started in a malfunctioning electric space heater” in an apartment unit spanning the second and third floors of the 19-story building. The door of the apartment was left open, allowing smoke to quickly spread throughout the building, Nigro said.

in times of sudden disaster, crisis, or chaos.
Surround us now with your grace and peace
through this horrific fire.
