Appeals court stays Biden vaccine mandate for businesses
An appeals court ruled on Saturday to temporarily halt President Biden’s coronavirus vaccine mandate for businesses with 100 employees or more.The ruling came from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit after state attorneys general sued the Biden administration over its mandate that would require employers with over 100 or more employees mandate vaccinations or undergo frequent testing.

IT MATTERS. This week the Labor Department issued the final OSHA regulation that would force more than 80 million American workers employed by private businesses to take the COVID-19 vaccine by January 4 or face weekly testing. The Biden Administration mandate applies to companies with 100 or more employees. Those not getting the shot will be required to pay for weekly COVID tests and employers are on the hook for enforcement—with each violation carrying a fine of $14,000. There are also 17 million healthcare workers working in nursing homes and hospitals that receive Medicare and/or Medicaid funds, who cannot opt-out. To fight the regulation, two dozen states are suing the federal government.
