Fellowship of Christian Athletes: God’s Hand on the Ministry Has Kept It Going in the Right Direction

KANSAS CITY, Mo.— In 66 years of ministry, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA, www.fca.org) has pursued many things. In 1954, FCA’s founder, Don McClanen was in pursuit of impacting a culture through the influence of coaches and athletes—finding a way for them to use their status to shine a light on Jesus. From McClanen’s passionate pursuit, FCA was born.

“Over the course of almost seven decades, FCA has continued to pursue sharing Christ to and through coaches and athletes using powerful programs and events like Huddles, 3Dimensional Coaching®, Fields of Faith and FCA Camps to name a few,” stated Shane Williamson, FCA president and CEO. “We also have pursued sharing His truth through Christ-centered resources such as the Athlete’s Bible, The FOUR, The CORE, and our Bible reading plans on YouVersion, which just eclipsed more than 200,000 subscribers and 1 million completions. Praise God!”

FCA’s pursuit of bringing Christ to the world also exists through international ministry. FCA’s field staff is currently serving in more than 106 countries, and over the next few years the ministry is targeting even more.

“God has done and continues to do some of the most amazing work through these vehicles, and we are truly humbled to be part of it,” continued Williamson. “All these things are excellent aims and ones we have been honored to carry out, but none of the above would have been possible without our one true pursuit: Jesus Christ Himself. It’s John 15:5 being played out—the verse in which Jesus says, ‘Apart from me you can do nothing.’ God’s hand on the ministry has kept it going in the right direction, and we pray every single day that this never changes and that we remain surrendered to the One who guides us. I don’t know about you, but I can’t think of a more important time to pursue Christ than now.”

FCA’s theme for 2021 is Pursue, which is based on the verse 1 Timothy 6:11: “Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.” FCA encourages its members to pursue God utilizing His Word as an anchor, grounding Christians as they look to His Kingdom.
