Rebuking False Teachers

Recently a well-known and outspoken TV host voiced his opinion of Christians and the absurdity of our faith.  It is also well known that this person is an atheist…which means he has no faith in God.  In his monologue, he told his audience to refer to the book of Revelation to see how absurd the Christian faith is.  He said this book of our Bible describes our God coming out of the clouds on a white horse with swords in his mouth.  He mentioned reading about monsters with four heads and six eyeballs…

It is true, but what he fails to reveal (if he even knows) is that the book of Revelation is just that, a revelation or unveiling of how God’s plan for his people plays out.  This Revelation was revealed to John in a vision during his exile on the Island of Patmos.  The images and ‘monsters’ described are symbols and have significant meaning in how the end times will come about… when our old enemy, the devil will be silenced forever.  Many have tried to interpret the meaning of Revelation…and some are even afraid to read it.

In order to understand the book of Revelation at all one first has to know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.  For it to be the first book of the Bible someone seeking salvation reads would not make much sense.  Unsaved people and proclaimed atheists are doing a good job of spreading false teachings and undermining the Word of God simply because they do not know any better.  The book of Jude…which comes just before Revelation…speaks about these false teachers and how we are to deal with them.

Jude 3 tells us we should earnestly contend (fight) for our faith.  Jude 4 For there are certain men crept in unawares… ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.  10…these speak evil of those things which they know not…12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear:  clouds they are without water, trees whose fruit withers, 13 Raging waves, wandering stars to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.  16 These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaks great swelling words…

Many false teachers have crept in today with ideas and instruction that goes against every thing Christ teaches.  We must stand up for our faith and ensure the truth is made known. It is our kids and other loved ones that are hearing these false teachers.  As they say in sports, we all have ‘skin in the game,’ so we can’t be dropping the ball.

Jude also tells us in verse 1: 9 that when contending with the devil about the body of Moses, the archangel, Michael, did not confront him with railing accusations, but said, “The Lord rebuke ye.”

So it will take prayer and a renewing of our faith in order to rebuke the ones that make light of our Christian beliefs.  Jude 20:  But ye, beloved, building yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.  21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
