Social Security tax exemption on deck for committee hearing
Santa Fe, NM – Tomorrow, February 2nd at 1:30pm, House Bill 49, legislation aimed at exempting social security earnings from New Mexico income tax, will be heard in the House Labor, Veterans’ and Military Affairs Committee (HVLMC). The measure is sponsored by Rep. Gail Armstrong (R-Socorro), Rep. Cathrynn Brown (R-Carlsbad), and Rep. Rebecca Dow (R-TorC). Passage of the bill would align New Mexico with the 37 other states in the nation that do not tax social security benefits.
In a joint statement, Rep. Armstrong, Rep. Brown, and Rep. Dow said, “New Mexico cannot afford another year of being uncompetitive with our neighboring states. It’s time to level the playing field. Studies show that many senior citizens would consider moving to New Mexico if we did not tax Social Security income, and quite a few retirees would decide to stay. If legislators are serious about attracting retirees to New Mexico, this is a meaningful way to show it. In the long run, not only will New Mexico seniors get the tax relief they deserve, but the state will benefit culturally and economically from the new influx of retirees.”
House Bill 49 will be heard in the House Labor, Veterans’ and Military Affairs committee on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021 at 1:30pm. Due to COVID restrictions, the public is prohibited from attending the committee in-person; however, public comment can be presented via Zoom at:

The news keeps getting worse for New Mexico! A horrific abortion bill, God’s babies don’t matter to many, now as we have expected here comes ‘looking in all the wrong places for money’ LEGALIZE POT! The state is always short on money…first, casinos were the answer for better education, we are still near the bottom in educating our children! How is that working? Casinos have not made life any better for the common people of New Mexico like me and Sharon. We have enough drunk drivers in this state! Now pot heads driving????!!! How about that world famous pizza party she held? Beer bottles being thrown off the balcony of the hotel, the Governor calling off the police that were called to her rowdy party! AWFUL EXAMPLE TO US ALL! Her legacy is the pizza party and movie industry, I guess, and all the lawsuits against her administration…. It is so easy to rely on gas and oil, it is lazy thinking! People are starting to leave our state, they have given up. The fatigue is heavy in New Mexico.

Senator Cliff Pirtle Introduces Legislation to Legalize Adult Use of Cannabis in New Mexico
SANTA FE – Senator Cliff Pirtle (District 32-Chavez, Eddy, and Otero) today introduced legislation to legalize cannabis for adult use in New Mexico. Senate Bill 288 (SB 288) would provide for the regulated, taxed sale and manufacturing of retail cannabis. The retail tax would be shared among municipalities, counties, and state governments for law enforcement and behavioral health and substance abuse programs.
“There is growing bipartisan agreement that prohibition has not been effective in limiting and controlling the negative effects of cannabis,” said Senator Pirtle. “This proposal represents a pragmatic compromise that emphasizes public safety, while giving New Mexicans the personal liberty to make decisions for themselves.”
Like alcohol, the excessive use of cannabis has proven to pose significant negative personal, economic, and societal challenges. To promote safe and responsible use, SB 288 proposes the creation of the Cannabis Control Commission, a state agency that will among other things regulate production, manage retail distribution, set quality control and consumer protection standards, and protect employers’ rights to a drug-free workforce.
“We want to do everything we can to ensure that cannabis is used only by adults in a safe and responsible manner,” added Senator Pirtle. “Legalization is coming, and as a state, we must get ahead of the issue and pass legislation that does not harm our communities.”
SB 288 was referred first to the Senate Tax, Business, and Transportation Committee.

Billy GrahamQ: I read in the New York Times and other articles about a movie entitled “Apostasy.” Several ministers have commented on it so it must have something to do with religion but what does apostasy really mean? — A.Q.A: The word apostasy is derived from two Greek words. Putting them together they mean “to stand away from” or “to abandon” one’s faith. The Biblical teaching about apostasy goes far deeper than that. It means to “fall away.” The Apostle Paul wrote about this to the church at Thessalonica. It affected every area of life. The word is so strong and so emphatic that it suggests a complete breakdown of morals, ethics and spirituality.The context indicates that the falling away refers not only to the abandonment of intellectual belief but also to an abandonment of morals and an abandonment of the love that is to characterize all Christians at all times.
Paul wrote: “In latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy” (1 Timothy 4:1-2), and “for the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires … they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth” (2 Timothy 4:3-4). The Bible says, “The whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one” (1 John 5:19). The wicked one is none other than Satan. His purpose is to create an atmosphere of immorality. He is working through society’s obsession with sex, falsehood, and every other evil in the world, causing many to depart from the truth. If our minds and hearts are not filled with God’s truth, something else will take its place. Many folks are fatigued…….some are starting to leave the state……we need some wonderful inspiration from Pastor Jerry McCullah!
Last Saturday night I had a dream. I have had similar dreams in the past, but never one having the impact that one has had on me. In this particular dream, I was preaching to a large room filled with nothing but men; no women, no children. It seemed that these men were what I will refer to as middle-age; perhaps 25 to 55 years in age.
When I first awoke I could remember what I was preaching, Scripture and all, but at the moment that memory has faded; I just remember the fervency and emotion of my preaching. However, the result of that preaching experience was hordes of men coming to Christ for the first time in their lives, and many, many more came to renew or rededicate themselves to the King of Glory!
The entire room was charged with the fire of Christ in men’s hearts to win their families, their cities, their states, and their nation away from evil and back to God. They were not arming themselves with anything more than the Word and the Love of God; His righteousness. Because they knew that is the only thing that will dispel the dark times we are in; nothing but the Light of Christ will do.
John Wesley said… “Give me one hundred men who fear nothing but sin and desire nothing but God, and I care not whether they be clergyman or laymen, they alone will shake the gates of Hell and set up the kingdom of Heaven upon the earth.”
I am not at all saying that I had a prophetic dream, but more a directional, hope-filled message to me for my aging and troubled heart over America from my heavenly Father.
Since 1999, I have had literally hundreds of dreams about my being the main speaker in large churches or auditoriums for a huge event. However, there was always something that prevented me from ever speaking; such as lost Bible, or lost notes, and often could not even find my way from backstage to the stage. I always awoke frustrated. That is 22 years of never actually getting in the pulpit to deliver a message.
Last Saturday night I spoke! I heard me speak! Hundreds heard me speak! Better yet, they all responded to God’s message! They were enlisting into God’s army of faithful men to sway the hearts and minds of citizens back toward God and godly morals.
What could this mean? I will tell you what I sense. I believe the Eternal Sovereign God, Who is not bound by our time, but forever bound to His purposed plan, is saying to the men of this nation and in particular those called by His name, “if you will bow low and step up to do what I require of you, then I will do as I promised I would” (refer, 2 Chronicles 7:14). He waits. But, He will not wait forever. As it were, “the ball is in our court” “put up or shut up!”
“But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” (1 Timothy 6:11-12)
Rise up, O men of God!
Have done with lesser things.
Give heart and mind and soul and strength
To serve the King of kings.
Rise up, O men of God!
The Kingdom tarries long.
Bring in the day of brotherhood
And end the night of wrong.
Rise up, O men of God!
The Church for you doth wait,
Her strength unequal to her task;
Rise up and make her great!
Lift high the Cross of Christ!
Tread where His feet have trod.
As brothers of the Son of Man,
Rise up, O men of God!
