Change is sometimes hard. The decision to change is often even harder. Small, necessary changes are often made without much consideration and a smooth transition is guaranteed…but the big, important changes take some heavy thought and soul searching…such is the decision to follow Jesus Christ. To open your heart and mind to a whole new concept is indeed a life-changing experience.
A few weeks ago, I received in the mail a bright purple envelope with the word ‘Changed’ at the top of it. Inside was a book by this title; same color, with a picture of a small boy and the name, Tom Cantor underneath the picture. Nothing else…just the book. Curious, I opened it up and began to read. It’s not a very long book, with a few photos and large print, so I didn’t put it down till I’d read every word. Why I received this book I don’t know, but I’m sure it was meant to be shared.
The book is an autobiography by Tom Cantor and tells the story of a confused young man growing up in a Jewish family and his search for answers and forgiveness. The answer he found of course was Jesus Christ. If you received this book, like I did, and haven’t read it yet, I encourage you to do so. The story of his journey to salvation and the importance of sharing the truth with others will bless your heart.
We often feel a need for change in our life, but knowing exactly what that change is isn’t always easy. Change, like life itself, is sometimes scary. I listen to people, especially young people, talk about life and how miserable it is. They have the latest phones, the I-pads and I-pods and x-boxes, but still they are miserable. They desire change but the prospect of it is more than they want to deal with. “We’re all going to die someday anyway,’ they say, “so what difference does it make?” If only they knew the difference Jesus Christ could make in their search for peace. If only we could get them to listen…
I think…I have to believe…they ARE listening! And almost persuaded. All it could take is a word spoken at the right time, or an act of faith, love that doesn’t judge and the patience of a saint…but we’ve got that! Jesus has them on His radar and He’s not giving up on them, so neither can we. Some things take much prayer and supplication…and lost souls are the sheaves we are to be gathering. They are seeking answers and to be changed is what they need. Change is hard, but as the song says: Keep telling the story, be faithful and true…let others see Jesus in YOU!
