Joni and Friends Devotional Moment with Joni
Furnace of Affliction
By Joni Eareckson Tada
Daily Devotional Message
Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tried you in the furnace of affliction. For my own sake, for my own sake, I do it, for how should my name be profaned? My glory I will not give to another.
Isaiah 48:10-11

There are all sorts of ways we can glorify God. After all, to glorify God means to give visible evidence to others that God is glorious, that he’s great and awesome and wonderful. One of the best ways to glorify God so that it’s clear to others is to show people you trust him by not complaining; show them how glorious God is by persevering through trials with a good attitude. It’ll really elevate God in their eyes! God tests you in his furnace of affliction (that’s what he calls your trials in Isaiah 48:10) so that his glory can be put on display through your yielded life. And he’s ready to stake his reputation on it for he says in Isaiah 48:11, “For my own sake, for my own sake, I do this.” God looks amazing and powerful to others when you trust him with disappointments. So, persevere with a smile, and make God look great!
