Tom Abungu has been a friend of ours for almost 20 years. We first met Tom when he brought a group of African kids from Kenya to sing at our church. We saw him again last year as he did the same. He has a ministry to orphans in Nairobi and has built a beautiful residence school where they can start out in the first grade and go all the way through high school. Each year (except this year because of Covid-19) he brings their Hakuna Matata Choir on a fund raising tour to America and the offerings they receive help the school expand its outreach. The young people are precious!
Every Christmas his ministry team goes into the slums of Nairobi to reach the street kids with clothes, food and Christmas gifts. For most of them it is the only help they get. Some may end up in Tom’s school and home. Others, for many reasons, will end up as human trash on the streets and an early grave. Kenya is a rich country for people at the top and heartless for the people at the bottom. Sound familiar?
Last night I received an emergency appeal from our brother for help in funding this year’s Christmas outreach to the slums. As it is in so many ministries, giving is down and extra help is needed. Tom set a goal of $5000 and so far he had received $2000. We helped him this morning and I am hopeful you can do the same as soon as possible. Time is of the essence.
I know that you, like Dorothy and I, receive countless requests for money, especially this time of year. All ministries, even the big ones are hurting financially.
