Youth For Christ: From Wuhan to Bethlehem: 6900 Miles from Death to Life

From Wuhan to Bethlehem

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.— In a previous Friday FragmentDan Wolgemuth, president/CEO of Youth For Christ www.yfc.net (YFC) wrote about the significance that 6900 miles has had on us as we face COVID-19, and as we welcome our Savior into our lives.

“Roughly 6900 miles — that is how far it is from Wuhan, China to Denver,” said Wolgemuth. “YFC’s main headquarters is 6900 miles from the genesis of a global disease that will be the topic of discussion and speculation and accusation and fury for years to come. The stuff of theories and books and movies.

“Roughly 6900 miles — that is how far it is from Israel to Denver. That 6900 miles is the distance from the genesis of a global movement that has also been the topic of discussion and speculation and accusation and fury… but also of transformation and redemption for millennium.

“The COVID 19 virus is controlled with distance,” continued Wolgemuth. “It is defined by masks and isolation. Our Savior is defined by proximity. Our Savior comes near and unites His people. The distance of 6900 miles brought a submicroscopic infectious agent that replicates only inside the living cells of an organism. It is an indiscriminate, contagious, parasite killer.”

But then, Wolgemuth points to 6900 miles, and finds inspiration. “There is an infant — tiny and fragile against the backdrop of history. He is a Nazarene, Jew, working class, life giver, abundance bringer, transformer. And He, too, is contagious.

“The virus may mark a generation; our King marks the cosmos. One is confined to mortality; the other empowered by eternity. One confronts medicine and economics; while the other assaults the gates of hell. It is 6900 miles from Wuhan to Bethlehem — from death to life.”
