BIBLE MEDITATION

“Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.”

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT

It’s not a Bible proverb, but there’s a wonderful proverb that says, “If the gold rusts, what shall the iron do?” Meaning, if those in leadership don’t lead rightly, what’s going to happen to the rest of us?

What does the Bible say about national leadership? Proverbs 29 makes it clear: leadership should lead by setting a godly example. The Bible repeatedly warns us that our leaders should be upright—and what the consequences will be if they aren’t.

Daniel confessed,

O Lord, according to all Your righteousness, I pray, let Your anger and Your fury be turned away from Your city Jerusalem, Your holy mountain; because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people are a reproach to all those around us. (Daniel 9:16)

Jesus said, “Render to God the things that are God’s.” But He also said, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s.” Our “Caesar” is a government of, by, and for the people. The very genius of our government is that the people participate. None other than the Lord Jesus Christ Himself teaches us to participate in government. (Matthew 22:21)

ACTION POINT

Under our Constitution, the government answers to the people. It’s unthinkable that Almighty God would ordain government, then have His people stay out of it. Who would that leave, then, to influence and lead? If you do not vote, you’ve disobeyed God’s plan for His people to be involved. Get informed. Know where each candidate stands on the issue of protecting life and His design for marriage. Then prayerfully cast your vote for those most closely aligned with God’s principles for life and godliness in a nation.
