President Trump Provides Proclamation on ‘The Return: National and Global Day of Prayer and Repentance’

Presidential Message: ‘On This Inaugural National Day of Prayer and Return … We Turn Our Hearts to Our Lord and Savior’

NEW YORK — President Trump and the First Lady added their prayers on Saturday to those of millions of Christians participating in “The Return: National and Global Day of Prayer and Repentance,” a historic gathering of believers in person at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., and streaming the event around the world.

“On this inaugural National Day of Prayer and Return, the First Lady and I join millions of Christians here in the United States and around the world in prayer, as we turn our hearts to our Lord and Savior,” Trump stated in a Presidential Message on the National Day of Prayer and Return on September 26, 2020.

Trump acknowledged America’s distinctly Christian heritage dating 400 year ago to the arrival of Pilgrims on the Mayflower in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and stressed the country’s need to emulate the Pilgrims’ faith.

“Following in our ancestors’ footsteps we continue the ‘firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence’ that provides us enduring strength and reassurance in our times of need,” the message stated.

The president invoked George Washington’s warning that God will not preserve a nation that turns its back on Him and fails to repent.

“‘Propitious smiles of heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right, which Heaven itself has ordained,’” Trump said, quoting Washington’s first Presidential Address. “As a country and a people, let us renew our commitment to these abiding and timeless principles,” Trump continued.

Co-chair of “The Return” and New York Times bestselling author Jonathan Cahn echoed Trump’s call on the American church, and on all Americans, to turn back to the God of the Bible individually and as a nation.

“Before we can pray for America’s return and repentance, we must take part in our own,” said Cahn.

“The Return” was led by national leaders from all walks of life — actors, athletes, businessmen and women, theologians and politicians. The first prayers lifted up were for the repentance of the church and the individual. Then came the prayers of intercession for America and, since The Return” is also global, prayers for the continents and nations of the world.

“The Return” was simulcast and streamed on the web around the world to more than 150 nations in nearly 90 languages. Millions are estimated to have streamed the “The Return’s” impressive speaker lineup. Video of the “The Return” became available the next day at TheReturn.org.
