Discerning the Truth

With so much information and diverse ideas about every subject imaginable being thrown at us daily, how are we to be expected to know what is the right way to act or believe?  No matter if we are into politics or not, we are in the world, and the decision we the people must soon make is a political one…one not to be made lightly or based on party preference.  This decision must be based on a discernment of the truth.  As Christians, we cannot remain silent and simply watch as our freedoms and rights are being decided on.  To vote is a privilege we must take advantage of…and it demands discerning the truth.

1 Cor. 12: 4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.  5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.

It goes on to mention the many gifts given to us by the Spirit.  One of these is the gift of discernment.

This is pertaining to the discerning of spirits and false prophets, but it can also be useful in discerning who to believe when listening to the various candidates running for office in any capacity. Who we follow and what they plan to do within that office should concern each of us as citizens.  We were remiss in being watchful before and are now seeing the results.

1 John 4: 4 Ye are of God… 5 They are of the world, therefore speak they of the world, and the world hears them.  6 We are of God: He that knows God hears us, he that is not of God hears not us.  Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

1 Timothy 4: 1 Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.

Col. 2: 8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

If we wish to have the gift of discernment, we must first ask for and seek wisdom.  James1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all men liberally and upbraids not; and it shall be given him.

Proverbs 15: 14 The heart of him that has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feed on foolishness.

There has certainly been a lot of foolishness going on in our country these days and wisdom is sorely needed.  As we seek God’s wisdom and filter the words we hear through it, maybe we can all be of one mind and elect people who will adhere to the principles and guidelines America has always clung to and has yet to let us down.  In some areas, the choice is simple while in others we must keep an open mind and weigh the pros and cons of whatever choices we are given.  Ask yourself, what would Jesus do. Only with his help will we be able to discern the truth and vote accordingly.

My name is Betty Fritz. I was born and raised in Texas but have resided in Elkhart, Indiana for the last 25 years. My husband is a Hoosier so that’s how we wound up here. We have two daughters and a son plus 6 grand kids…..3 boys and 3 girls. I retired last year after working for 24 years at Elkhart Child Development Center. I’ve been writing since a teenager and have taken several writing courses. I enjoy writing short stories. I wrote a book of poems, RHYMES OF THE TIMES, which was published a few years ago. I have written countless songs, a few for which demo recordings have been made. Recently I’ve been writing blogs..most of them about my faith and things the Lord has taught me in my Christian life over the last 51 years. My inspiration comes from my personal relationship with Jesus Christ and my desire to see that my grandchildren grow up in a Christian nation. My goal is to bring glory to Him and help others to see that there is POWER in the name of JESUS!
