I saw this news about the Church in Jeffers, Minnesota closing in my hometown newspaper the Cottonwood County Citizen in Windom. My heartaches when I hear of a Church closing. I cannot wait to read more of the history of this Church, which is near Windom. Many Churches in America have anywhere from 8, 10 to 20 folks every Sunday. Dedicated Pastors and members is what it takes to keep these Churches going. I love preaching in rural New Mexico, as I find the folks so very much in love with the Lord and love the Word of God. Many of the members have a long family line of service to their Church.

The picture of the Church steeple is of the FBC in Reserve, New Mexico where I serve as interim Pastor, where we usually have 8 to 15 folks every Sunday. Rural America is the backbone of our Country. Farming and ranching and you will find Bible believing folks in every nook and cranny. Salt of the earth folks.

Rural Jeffers church to close quietly amid pandemic

The church is not a building, but a body of believers with a specific purpose. These biblical roles or ministries of the church are foundational to it. What are these roles? They are many, but key to any church are foundations in worship, edification and evangelism. Worship is God-centered and Christ-centered. It is not about entertaining Christians with Hollywood, flashy displays or presentations, but about expressing our love by worshiping our Creator. It does not matter to me how many people come on a Sunday. I am to shine the light of Jesus Christ to one person at a time.
