The Theme We Need is Love

I woke up this morning with the words of refrain to an old hymn I hadn’t heard nor sang in more than 30 years.   It is a great old Hymn that has memories of my childhood in and old country church in Kansas. I can hear Mutt Garrett leading the song now.   I have often thought the melody reminds me more of a skating rink song than a church hymn. From the pew and as young lad, I would often whisper the words as I heard the pianist begin to play, “All skate!”

It is not found in many newer hymnals, but it has a message which we all need to hear in these trying days.

The refrain:

    “Love is the theme.
Love is supreme.
Sweeter it grows,
Glory bestows.
Bright as the sun,
Ever it glows!
Love is the theme,
Eternal theme!”

What a difference it would make in all our individual lives, if love were our theme; a love which demonstrates joy, peace, acceptance, grace, forgiveness; and all fruit of the Spirit.  What a difference it would make if love were undeniably the theme of our churches.   It would grow. It would become sweeter. It would glow. It would bequeath His Glory.
