The Tongue is More Powerful and Deadly Than an Atomic Bomb

Welcome to the House of Hope,

America is tearing itself down with such bad words coming out of the mouths of many……it is tearing apart our great country! I’m upset what my children and grandchildren are seeing from adults! My goodness! I had a talk with my new friend Korean War Veteran Roger yesterday in the park and he said, “I am so worried about this Country, and what my grandchildren are growing up in.” America really is at war with itself, the enemy is us, we are our own enemy. Do not talk to me about politics, it has almost ruined America as I knew it, both Republicans and Democrats are at fault. We have sent the wrong message, the wrong words into the minds and hearts of our young people. Whatever happened to building bridges with the love and the trust of Jesus?

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another:
just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

By this all people will know that you are my disciples,
if you have love for one another.
John 13:34-35

My life verse:

“But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” -Acts 20:24

The tongue is one of the smallest members of the body, yet it is more powerful and deadly than an atomic bomb. The results of societal disintegration are seen all around us, flaunted in political headlines, glamorized on television, on the big screen, in today’s music and in real life. One of the results is in the loss of dignity. No better example can be found than in the use of language.

Most decent people wonder what impact the raw-language culture will have as society moves forward. Music and comedy routines flout human decency in such obscene ways that even reading about them makes us sick. Are we shockproof? Some parents are vocal; the majority say it just reflects the world we live in. Young people aren’t shocked by anything. This in itself is shocking!

Should we be concerned about the acceptable use of vile language? It is grievous, and people do not stop and consider what the Bible has to say: “The tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity…. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison…. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing… these things ought not to be so” (James 3:6-10).

From Dr. Jim Denison:

If we are the only salt and light of the world, we must take responsibility for responding to the decay and darkness of the world (Matthew 5:13–16). And we must beware lest the sins we condemn become sins we commit.

The sixteenth-century theologian Erasmus advised us: “If Satan tempts you toward boasting, double your efforts to be humble in all things. If Satan tempts you to withhold your prayers, increase them. If your inclinations are to be greedy and selfish, increase your donations to charity. This way you can find in temptation renewed provocation to increased piety.

“This procedure galls Satan the most. It makes him afraid to tempt you because nothing is more hateful to the Evil One than that he should be responsible for some good.”

How will you make Satan “responsible for some good” today?
