When Tragedy Strikes
Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
Romans 12:15
I think we all know that we are just one phone call away from receiving news of a tragic event. And for some of you, it’s already come to pass.
How can you help someone who is in this tough situation?
I think it’s good to remember that when something like this occurs, it’s important we immediately go to God in prayer.
Then we begin the process of mourning with our loved one or Friend.
There are no simple words or a phrase that can take away the pain and despair that someone might be facing at the loss of a loved one. But there are promises from God’s word that can give hope and strength when tragedy strikes.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” -Jesus
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”
Psalm 56:3
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted”
Matthew 5:4
There is comfort in the Lord for those who are mourning. Calling on him during this tragedy shows that our trust has been put in him and that he is the one we should seek out in our times of grief.
There will also be times, and you’ll know it, when we may have no words and that’s the time to just be silent and let your loved one mourn. You are just going to give them a shoulder to cry on and lend an ear.

I’m sure you know of someone who is hurting right now. Here in my small town, a tragedy just occurred a couple of days ago. Our prayers have been for peace and comfort for the entire family. We’re praying around the clock!
We all know somebody who’s hurting.
Maybe they have an illness, or have recently lost a loved one, or their marriage has fallen apart. Go to them and seek them out and be a friend to them.
If you have experienced these tragedies yourself, don’t let those experiences go to waste, use them to help encourage others.
God’s desire is to have a personal relationship with you. In doing this, we can find comfort and hope through a relationship with God, even in the midst of tragedy.
