Christians often try to forget their weakness; God wants us to remember it, to feel it deeply. We want to subdue and free ourselves from weakness; God wants us to rest and even rejoice in it. Weakness makes most Christians feel sad and short-changed; Christ teaches us to say, “I am glad to boast about my weakness, so that the power of Christ can work through me.”
Andrew Murray observed that, “the Christian thinks his weakness is his greatest hindrance in the life and service of God: God tells us that it is the secret of strength and success. It is our weakness, heartily accepted and continually realized, that gives us our claim and access to the [power] of Him who has said, ‘My strength is made perfect in weakness.’” The bottom line? Don’t feel short-changed by your weaknesses. Join me in celebrating God’s purposes in each one.
Father, You know my heart. Even after all these years of weakness, it never becomes easy to accept. It never feels natural to have someone do for me what I would so much rather do for myself. Even so, I praise You today for every weakness that keeps me leaning on the power of Your mighty Son, who loves me and gave Himself for me (Galatians 2:20). |
