National Day of Prayer 2020 Theme: Pray God’s Glory Across the Earth, AMEN!!!

Such a wonderful announcement from Kathy Branzell of National Day of Prayer……….

Announcement of Our 2020 Scripture and Theme

Friend —

I want to thank all of you who attended, sponsored, or prayed for our Revive and Refresh Coordinator’s Summit this past week. We also want to thank Grace Church in Eden Prairie for hosting us with an abundance of love, hospitality and delicious meals. It was indeed a time of refreshment in the presence of the Lord in prayer, His Word, fellowship, and strategy sessions of prayer warrior battle plans and procedures. We look forward to our 2020 Summit next year in Philadelphia hosted by the American Bible Society.

One of the highlights of our Summit was the announcement of our 2020 National Day of Prayer Scripture and theme. In case you have not heard, our Scripture is:

Habakkuk 2:14 For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

Our 2020 Theme:

God made a promise to the prophet Habakkuk during some very deep and troubling times in Israel’s history. It was a time marked by darkness and disobedience from the culture and God’s people. The prophet cries out to God for hope and help and God answers in a most unexpected way; to use a wicked, idol-worshipping nation’s army to come and execute His judgement on His people. Habakkuk could not believe what he was hearing as God began to detail the “woes” that would come to pass, but in the middle of the pronouncement of woes God pauses to make a profound promise that would eventually be seen in the face of Jesus Christ and spread by Christ-followers until Christ returns.

God’s promise, “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea” echoes into the New Testament as the apostle Paul writes in 2Corinthians 4:6, “For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.” It is this knowledge, the knowledge of Jesus, the knowledge of the gospel, that we pray will spread across the earth. It is through every follower of Jesus living a prayer-care-share lifestyle that His glory will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.

Over the next several months leading up to the National Day of Prayer on May 7, 2020 we will continue sharing many ways we can pray and spread the glory of God. A few examples are when we worship instead of worry, when we bring unity instead of division, and when we show and share the love and message of Jesus with others. We exist to give God glory; we are commanded to spread His glory in all we think, say and do. (1 Peter 4:11) We get to experience His glory in every breath and then we decide if we are going to respond obediently by reflecting His glory back to Him, to live in great awe and honor of Him or if we are going to steal, stifle, or in some way try to store it up for ourselves. We pray that you will join us this year to pray and proclaim the knowledge of God’s glory across the earth.

Serving Him with Gladness,

Kathy Branzell

About the National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress’ proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.
