Cleaning out your heart to make room for better things

We are very blessed on this Saturday morning to have another wonderful message from Sister Connie Keyohara! God Bless you and yours Sister Connie! Happy Thanksgiving!

A time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away. Ecclesiastes 3:6

I have to share something that happened last Saturday.

I was cleaning out my storage shed.  I have 20+ years of items in that storage shed.

As I begin to sift through the memories, I found things that have been there for so long that I forgot I even had, but it was important I look through these boxes to make sure it was something that I wanted to let go of (get rid of).

Some of the boxes were just junk, pointless unnecessary, forgotten items that were literally just collecting dust. Some of the boxes had memories the meant a lot to me that reminded me of my past.

Some of the boxes were things that brought back a memory, but I didn’t necessarily want to keep.

As I made my way through these boxes and started taking everything out and rummaging through each item, I noticed that I was making progress and the shed starts getting empty.

Once the shed is cleaned out, and swept out I could begin to rearrange what I wanted in that shed. How I wanted it, what I want to keep, what I want to get rid of. It felt great!

It reminded me that our life can be this way at times. Sometimes it’s absolutely necessary to sift through and rummage through our past thoughts. Maybe something we’ve caused or done, or need to make right.

Maybe it’s  because we need peace of mind. And as we start to go through each thing or event that we’re holding on to, we can decide if it’s something that we need.  Is it going to help me grow? Is it going to lead me to God? Or is it something that’s just holding me back. Collecting dust, pointless and useless?

Letting go of the past can be difficult. Letting go of the old life, bad habits and addictions, unhealthy relationships and lifestyles is necessary for our spiritual growth and peace of mind. We’re clearing out old thought patterns, and behaviors to make room for new things, better things.

Too many times we are bound up in the past and as a result, we cannot fully live our lives in the present. Before you can really start to move forward in your appointed destiny with God, you will first have to learn how to let your past fully go.

Whether it’s feeling Fear. Anxiety. Addiction. Adultery. Shame. Rejection. Depression. Loneliness. Failure. Neglected. Defeated. Abused. Confused. Broken. Hopeless. Or forgotten…God’s got it! We find our redemption at the foot of the cross.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

My prayer for you today, is that you would  let go of the past, and clean out anything that does not belong in your heart.

Many Blessings,

Connie Keyohara
