NMDOT prepares for snow storm in northeast New Mexico

SANTA FE –  Up to a foot of snow could fall over Raton Pass Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service. In addition, 3 to 8 inches may blanket the depending on the area. Along the I-25 corridor from Las Vegas to Raton, 1 to 4 inches of snow may fall, creating slick road conditions.

The Department of Transportation is prepared to keep the traveling public safe. Crews have been loading up salt and cinder trucks for the past two days.  Snow plows are also ready to roll. A total of 25 trucks/plows will be in the area. Patrols will be assessing the northeast corner of the state throughout the night, providing frequent road condition updates.

“We’re ready. Safety is the department’s number one priority and we are fully prepared for this storm,” said Transportation Secretary Mike Sandoval. “Our crews make every effort to make the roads passable and keep the public informed.”
